HBO has announced that a filmed version of Oh, Mary!, the Tony and Olivier Award-winning comedy written by and starring Cole Escola, will debut in 2027.
The special will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max, bringing the acclaimed stage production to television for the first time.
The filmed version captures a July 28, 2026 performance at London’s Trafalgar Theatre, with Escola reprising their celebrated role as Mary Todd Lincoln.

Oh, Mary! will debut on HBO and stream on HBO Max in 2027.
An exact premiere date has not yet been announced.
Rather than adapting the play into a conventional film, HBO’s presentation is a live capture of the West End production, preserving the staging and performances audiences saw at the Trafalgar Theatre.
What Is ‘Oh, Mary!’ About?
Written by Escola, Oh, Mary! is an intentionally absurd reimagining of Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
The 80-minute, one-act comedy presents Mary as a frustrated, hard-drinking would-be cabaret performer whose ambitions and desires collide with life inside the White House.
The show began Off-Broadway in 2024 before transferring to Broadway, where it became a major critical and commercial success. It later moved to London’s West End.

Escola leads the filmed performance as Mary Todd Lincoln.
Giles Terera appears as Mary’s Husband, with Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone, Tony Macht as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant and Michael Urie as Mary’s Teacher.
The performance was captured at the Trafalgar Theatre in London on July 28.
Who Directed The Filmed ‘Oh, Mary!’ Performance?
Sam Pinkleton, who directed the stage production, also directs the filmed presentation.
Escola executive produces alongside Alex Bach, Daniel Powell, Carlee Briglia, Mike Lavoie, Kevin McCollum and Lucas McMahon.
HBO Programming executive Nina Rosenstein described the production as a wildly original comedy and said the network was proud to bring Escola and Pinkleton’s show to a wider audience.
