Avengers: Endgame is back in cinemas this September, but Marvel Studios isn’t simply putting its 2019 blockbuster back on the big screen. Officially titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, the new theatrical release arrives just months before Avengers: Doomsday and will feature additional material connecting the two Avengers films.
With tickets now beginning to go on sale, here’s everything you need to know about Avengers: Endgame Encore, including when it releases, what’s new and why you might actually want to watch Endgame again before Doomsday.
When Is ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Back In Cinemas?
Avengers: Endgame Encore will be released in UK cinemas on September 25, 2026.
The re-release comes less than three months before Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in cinemas on December 18. It gives Marvel fans the opportunity to revisit the conclusion of the Infinity Saga on the big screen seven years after Endgame originally broke box-office records around the world.
What Is ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’?
This isn’t quite the same Avengers: Endgame that audiences watched in 2019.
Marvel Studios has given the re-release the new title Avengers: Endgame Encore, with the film’s updated theatrical runtime listed at approximately 185 minutes. The original cut of Endgame ran for around 181 minutes, meaning Encore adds roughly four minutes of material.
Marvel has positioned the release as more than a straightforward anniversary screening, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo explaining that additional material has been created to help connect Endgame with the story of Avengers: Doomsday.
What New Footage Is In ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’?
Exactly what Marvel has added remains something of a mystery.
Avengers: Endgame Encore contains additional material that helps bridge the story into Avengers: Doomsday, although Marvel has understandably stopped short of revealing exactly what happens. The new 185-minute runtime suggests around four minutes have been added compared with the original theatrical version.
Marvel is also advertising an additional sneak peek at Avengers: Doomsday for audiences watching the film in IMAX and Infinity Vision-certified cinemas. The Encore version itself contains new material, while selected premium screenings are being promoted with an additional Doomsday preview
What Is Infinity Vision?
You may have noticed another unfamiliar name appearing alongside the re-release: Infinity Vision.
Infinity Vision is a new premium cinema certification being introduced by Disney and Marvel Studios.
Rather than being one specific projection technology like IMAX, the label is awarded to cinema auditoriums meeting a collection of standards covering areas including projection, screen presentation and sound.
Avengers: Endgame Encore is one of the first major releases being used to introduce the certification ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.
You don’t necessarily need to find an Infinity Vision screening to watch the Encore release, but Marvel is specifically promoting IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings as the places to see an additional Doomsday sneak peek.
Why Is ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Being Re-Released?
Nostalgia is obviously part of it, but Avengers: Endgame remains arguably the single most important movie in the MCU, ending the Infinity Saga and changing the status quo for almost every major Marvel character.
Tony Stark died defeating Thanos. Steve Rogers travelled back through time before passing the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson. Natasha Romanoff sacrificed herself for the Soul Stone. Thor left Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Loki escaped with the Tesseract during the Avengers’ time heist.
The years following Endgame have introduced the TVA, incursions, variants, the multiverse, the Fantastic Four and several new generations of heroes. Now those threads are beginning to converge in Avengers: Doomsday. Revisiting Endgame allows Marvel to return audiences to the moment where many of those stories began before moving directly into its next Avengers event.
Do You Need To Rewatch Avengers: Endgame Before Doomsday?
100% – Not necessarily because you’ll have forgotten what happens, but because Avengers: Endgame appears to be becoming more important to Doomsday than audiences might previously have expected.
The Avengers’ time travel created the circumstances that allowed the 2012 version of Loki to escape, ultimately leading into the events of Loki and the TVA’s increasingly important role in the Multiverse Saga.
The film also gives Tony Stark and Steve Rogers their conclusions, both of which take on renewed significance now that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are returning in Doomsday.
When Does ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Release?
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in cinemas on December 18, 2026, just under three months after the Endgame Encore re-release.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film will bring together heroes from across the MCU alongside the Fantastic Four and returning members of the X-Men.
At the centre of it all is Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Just how Avengers: Endgame connects to Doom remains one of the movie’s biggest unanswered questions.
