Disney has announced a new Artemis Fowl animated series adaptation for Disney Channel and Disney+. Author Eoin Colfer revealed the project at New York Comic Con on October 11, during a panel celebrating 25 years since the first book was published.
Colfer will executive produce the series alongside Ben Juwono, whose credits include Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series, and Colleen Evanson, who has worked on DuckTales and Monsters at Work.
What Is The New ‘Artemis Fowl’ Series About?
The action-adventure fantasy follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he uncovers a secret underground society of armed, dangerous and technologically advanced fairies. Artemis plans to capture one of them and steal its magic in an attempt to heal his dying mother and save his family.
The new animated adaptation comes after Disney’s 2020 live-action film, offering the franchise another opportunity to reach viewers on screen. Since its debut in 2001, Colfer’s book series has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and been translated into 48 languages.
When Will ‘Artemis Fowl’ Be Released On Disney+?
Disney has not confirmed a premiere date, voice cast or episode count. Colfer said he was proud to join the animation team, while Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis said the adaptation aims to introduce the books to a new generation while honouring longtime readers.
Artemis Fowl is in development for Disney Channel and Disney+. A release date has not been announced.
