Dogwoof has officially announced that Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson’s critically acclaimed Swedish-language documentary The Last Journey will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from June 20, 2025.
An emotional, often hilarious road movie with a life-affirming message, The Last Journey follows a loving son’s attempts to help his ageing father re-engage with life. Their solution? A spontaneous road trip through the sun-drenched towns and villages of the South of France. What follows is a heartfelt and intimate exploration of memory, regret and renewed connection.

Described by Variety as “humorous and heartbreaking,” The Last Journey has already made its mark on the global awards circuit. It was selected as Sweden’s official entry for the International Feature category at the 97th Academy Awards and won the Audience Award at the Guldbagge Awards in January 2025. The documentary has also become Sweden’s highest-grossing documentary of all time – a remarkable achievement for a film that blends observational warmth with cinematic flair.
The Last Journey is directed by Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson, with production by Lars Beckung and Petra Måhl. Cinematography credits include Erik Persson, Erik Vallsten, Robin Trolin, Johan Kjellberg Elgemark, and Robin Wikner, with editing by Elgemark and Wikner as well.
The film’s UK release is being handled by Dogwoof, a renowned London-based documentary company known for distributing Oscar and BAFTA-winning films such as Free Solo, Navalny, 20 Days in Mariupol, and No Other Land. Their 2025 slate also includes Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore, 2000 Meters to Andriivka, and One to One: John & Yoko, cementing their role as a powerhouse in the non-fiction film space.
The Last Journey will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 20th June 2025.
