The hotly anticipated finale of Doctor Who Season 2, titled The Reality War, is seemingly set to hit UK cinemas, with listings briefly appearing on both Vue and Showcase websites for May 31, 2025.
When Do Tickets Go On Sale for the ‘Doctor Who’ Season 2 Finale in Cinemas?

UPDATE: Tickets go on sale at 10am on May 1. You can pre-book and buy tickets at doctorwhoincinemas.co.uk.
Natasha Spence, Events Director, BBC Studios commented: “We’re delighted to be partnering with CinemaLive once again and give Doctor Who fans across the UK and Ireland the opportunity to watch their favourite show together. This finale promises to be an amazing ride for Whovians, and we’re excited to share the Doctor and Belinda’s latest adventures with them on the big screen.”
John Travers, Head of Acquisitions & Distribution for CinemaLive said: “Following the success of last year’s midnight cinema event, we’re excited to be working with BBC Studios to ensure that this time round, Doctor Who fans of all ages are able to share in the epic experience of watching the two-part season finale on the big screen.”
In now deleted listings, Showcase promoted the screening as a double bill, pairing the finale with its penultimate episode, Wish World, while Vue only listed The Reality War on its own. Although the BBC and CinemaLive have yet to officially confirm the cinema release, the listings — now removed — strongly suggest another theatrical event for fans of the long-running sci-fi series.

‘Doctor Who’ Season 2 Finale: “The Reality War Cast and Synopsis
The episode is directed by Alex Sanjiv Pillai and features an ensemble cast including Ncuti Gatwa, Millie Gibson, Varada Sethu, Bonnie Langford, Jonah Hauer-King, and Anita Dobson. According to RadioTimes, the official synopsis reads:
“The devastating climax. Strands that have drawn across seasons and centuries now pull together, tight as a noose, as legends converge for battle. Our brave, battered, beaten Doctor stands alone and helpless against the Unholy Trinity. Surely this is the end? Unless…”
The CinemaLive synopsis reads:
“Belinda Chandra has been kidnapped by robots, faced a terrifying god and a creature of pure evil on her travels with the Doctor. With the TARDIS still unable to get her home to Earth, Belinda must fight for her life as the Doctor faces an almighty threat to reality itself…“
When Will The ‘Doctor Who’ Season 2 Finale Release?

There’s further evidence of a special event release in the Disney+ May 2025 schedule, which lists The Reality War with an unusual 11am PT premiere, rather than the typical 12am PT slot used throughout the season. This could be pointing to a simulcast broadcast at 7pm BST with BBC One in the UK, moving away from the now-customary 8am iPlayer drop. This release was previously used for the 60th Anniversary specials as well as the annual Christmas specials, including last year’s Joy To The World.
This strategy mirrors last year’s release of The Legend of Ruby Sunday and Empire of Death, which played in UK cinemas to strong box office results, pulling in £364,253 and averaging £1,325 per site across 275 screenings.
With mounting evidence and precedent behind it, all signs point to Doctor Who once again ending its season in epic, cinematic fashion. While official confirmation is still pending, fans may want to clear their calendars and get ready to book their tickets for what promises to be a dramatic and emotional conclusion to the latest chapter in the Doctor’s journey.
Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 4, “Lucky Day” premieres on Disney+ worldwide and on BBC iPlayer in the UK on May 3 at 12am PT / 3am ET / 8am GMT. Check out a trailer below:
