HBO Max UK & Ireland has announced a new licensing agreement with A24, bringing first-run and later-window films and series from the studio to the streaming service alongside a selection of catalogue titles.
The deal begins this October, with Backrooms and Born to Bowl among the first confirmed titles. Further first-window A24 feature films will be announced at a later date.
What Does The HBO Max And A24 UK Deal Include?
HBO Max says the new agreement spans first-run and later-window films and series from A24, as well as titles from the studio’s catalogue.
The first-run series Born to Bowl will arrive on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland on October 13. The agreement also includes catalogue films such as The Whale, Warfare and Moonlight, which will roll out on the platform during the term of the deal.
Additional first-window A24 feature films are also included, although HBO Max has not yet announced which titles will follow.
When Is ‘Backrooms’ Streaming On HBO Max UK?
Backrooms will make its exclusive HBO Max debut in the UK and Ireland on October 26, following its theatrical run earlier this year.
Directed by Kane Parsons, the psychological horror film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve. The film is based on Parsons’ viral YouTube horror series and the wider Backrooms internet phenomenon.

Which A24 Films Are Coming To HBO Max UK?
For now, Backrooms is the major first-window A24 film confirmed under the agreement. HBO Max has said more first-window films will be announced later, while The Whale, Warfare and Moonlight are among the catalogue titles already named.
The agreement gives HBO Max a new pipeline of A24 films and series in the UK and Ireland, extending a relationship that already sees A24 titles stream on HBO Max in the United States.
Born to Bowl arrives on HBO Max UK & Ireland on October 13, followed by Backrooms on October 26.
