Sky One is officially returning, marking a major shake up for Sky’s entertainment portfolio as the broadcaster prepares for increased streaming competition across the UK. Sky has confirmed the iconic channel will relaunch later this month, replacing both Sky Showcase and Sky Max in a move designed to centralise its biggest entertainment titles under one recognisable brand.
Launching on channel 106 from February 24, the revived Sky One will become the home of Sky’s flagship comedy and entertainment programming, combining new Sky Originals with returning fan favourites.
Among the headline commissions joining the channel are The Dyers’ Caravan Park and Gemma Collins: Four Weddings and a Baby, alongside returning series such as Rob & Romesh Vs.., The Paper and Ted. The channel will also become the UK broadcast home for Saturday Night Live UK, which is set to launch later this year.
Carli Kerr, Managing Director of Sky TV and NOW, described the relaunch as an effort to simplify viewing choices while building on the channel’s legacy.
“Our goal is to make it easier than ever for Sky TV customers to find and enjoy the shows they love,” Kerr said. “Building on the iconic heritage of Sky One, the channel will be a one of a kind destination that is big, bold and bursting with energy, bringing together brand new Sky Originals like The Dyers’ Caravan Park, returning favourites such as Rob & Romesh Vs.., and serving as the home of the highly anticipated Saturday Night Live UK.”
A Strategic Revival

Originally launched in 1989, Sky One played a defining role in shaping UK subscription television, becoming synonymous with imported US hits, original British comedy and large scale entertainment programming. Its closure in 2021 saw Sky pivot towards brand segmentation through Sky Max and Sky Showcase, but the latest move signals a renewed focus on brand recognition and simplified content discovery.
Sky has stressed that customers will not lose access to any programming as a result of the channel restructuring. Instead, content from Sky Showcase and Sky Max will be folded into the relaunched Sky One, alongside new original commissions launching throughout 2026.
The relaunch will also trigger several channel number adjustments across Sky platforms. For Sky Q customers, Sky Comedy will move to channel 113, Sky Documentaries to 114, Sky Crime to 121, Sky Arts to 122, Challenge to 130 and Sky Sci-Fi to 145. Meanwhile, Sky Glass and Stream viewers will see similar reshuffling, with Sky Comedy moving to 109 and Sky Documentaries to 110 among other changes.
HBO Max Pressure Looms

The timing of Sky One’s return is unlikely to be coincidental. Warner Bros. Discovery is preparing to complete the European rollout of HBO Max, with the streaming service scheduled to launch in the UK and Ireland in March 2026.
The platform has already expanded into eight additional European territories including Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland, bringing its global availability to more than 100 countries. The service continues to position itself as a premium streaming hub, combining content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios and Max Originals, alongside major sports rights in selected regions.
Upcoming highlights for European subscribers include A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the latest expansion of the Game of Thrones universe based on the works of George R.R. Martin, alongside returning dramas such as Industry and The Pitt. The service will also carry major live sporting events including the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 in territories where sports add-ons are offered.
With Warner Bros. Discovery confirming the UK and Ireland rollout will complete its European expansion, Sky faces renewed competition for prestige television, particularly given HBO’s long association with premium drama. The consolidation of Sky’s entertainment output under the Sky One brand could therefore represent a pre-emptive move to strengthen brand loyalty and streamline its broadcast identity before the streaming battleground intensifies.
Sky’s Broader Channel Strategy
Despite the relaunch, Sky’s wider portfolio of genre specific channels remains unchanged. Networks including Sky Atlantic, Sky Comedy, Sky Witness, Sky Crime, Sky Nature and Sky Documentaries will continue to operate alongside the refreshed flagship entertainment channel.
Sky has confirmed Sky One will be available to customers subscribed to Sky Ultimate TV, Sky Signature and Sky Plus packages, with on demand access also available from launch day.
As streaming competition continues to escalate, the return of Sky One signals Sky’s attempt to reconnect with one of its most recognisable brands while adapting to an increasingly fragmented viewing landscape. With HBO Max preparing to enter the UK market, the relaunch may prove to be both a nostalgic revival and a strategic repositioning for the broadcaster’s entertainment future.
