High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is back, and this week the Wildcats come together to celebrate in “The Quinceañero”. You can find more of Popped’s Disney+ and Hulu coverage here. Read my spoiler-filled thoughts below.
I am finally back with the weekly reviews, and I couldn’t be happier – I’ve been watching and keeping up with the series in the background whilst finishing my uni assessments so it’s fun to be properly watching again!

Time For A Quinceañero
It is a credit to Disney and the writers because I absolutely despise the character but I think that is their intention, as she drinks her scalding hot coffee in the episode’s early moments. They’re slowly setting up her moment. and I’m hoping it is near, which Derek Hough’s character Zack Roy teases will be very soon. I just hope they don’t drag it out long because I for one, think I’d rather see the fallout soon rather than later.
The episode is fun, with Seb going behind Carlos’ back to planning a surprise Quinceañero for him (even though he isn’t 15?). The Quince Años tradition for a boy is different from a Quinceañera because there is no big dress, no special shoes, and no last doll. The male version is more about the process, but still includes the symbolic items such as a ceremony and the priest performing the service.

It obviously is a lot more low-key in the episode but is more of a party/get-together with the whole of the Wildcats, and it’s a really nice moment. We get a dance (and sing-song) from Gina which is recreated from one which Carlos did in a hilarious video of at 13. Gina’s song is quite fun and upbeat too, probably one of the better songs of this season too, it’s definitely up there. Gina and EJ also have a nice little moment in the episode, which is nice until Gina rings her Mom and somehow decides to go home to her Mom and leave East High, but I’m not buying it yet…
Following Gina’s performance, we get a lovely performance of “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie by Seb who dedicates it to Carlos on his special day. The performance is great, and a strong one too – I just find it funny that Disney is using other title’s songs before using the rest of the HSM2 soundtrack, which isn’t an issue – but they promised us songs from the best DCOM so we shall see if they do that in due course…

It all kicks off when it is revealed that North High are now doing Beauty and the Beast too… and I had a feeling something like this would happen. What happens next though? We’ll just have to wait and see…
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – “The Quinceañero” Review – Final Thoughts
The episode is definitely one of my favourites of the season so far, it’s a pretty good starting point for the rivalry between these two schools to kick-off, and I’m excited to see what comes from it all.
