Directed by Francis Lawrence, Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games story. Joseph Zada plays a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, the District 12 tribute who will eventually become a mentor to Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.

The story centres on the Second Quarter Quell, a particularly brutal edition of the Games featuring twice the usual number of tributes. The cast also includes Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner and Ralph Fiennes as President Snow. Audiences will see the events that shaped Haymitch long before his introduction in the original films.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens in UK cinemas on November 20, 2026, with selected IMAX previews beginning November 18. Tickets are on sale now.
