Disney+ has officially greenlit an all-new Darkwing Duck animated series, bringing Drake Mallard back into action with Mark Hamill taking over the title role.
The new series will continue the story of Disney’s classic animated superhero, with Seth Rogen voicing Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan playing Gosalyn Mallard and Lilimar joining the franchise as a new character named Duckie.
The project comes from Sean Tretta and Borja Peña Gorostegui, with Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures among the producers.
What Is The New ‘Darkwing Duck’ Series About?
The new series picks up decades after Darkwing’s original adventures. Disney says Darkwing Duck has spent the last 35 years trapped inside his worst nightmare: an alternate world where nobody has ever heard of his superhero exploits.
That changes when rebellious teenager Duckie arrives with knowledge of his heroic past and pulls the ego-driven vigilante back into action.
The pair will face returning enemies including Negaduck and Megavolt, while Darkwing also reunites with familiar allies Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana as they attempt to save the universe.
The premise makes the Disney+ project a continuation of the original Darkwing Duck rather than a complete retelling of Drake Mallard’s story.
Who Is In The ‘Darkwing Duck’ Cast?
Hamill leads the voice cast as Drake Mallard, also known as Darkwing Duck. Rogen will voice Launchpad McQuack, while Caplan takes on the role of Gosalyn Mallard and Lilimar voices the new character Duckie.
The wider cast includes Dan Stevens as Glade McTowers, Tiffany Shepis as Rosa, Kathryn Newton as Firecracker, Teo Briones as Timb, Tyler Dean Flores as Pondsy, Katie Rich as Officer Shanks and Nat Faxon as Officer Webb.
Rogen and Point Grey Pictures previously worked with Disney on the recent The Muppet Show special, which Popped praised as a pitch-perfect revival of the classic series.
Who Is Making The New ‘Darkwing Duck’ Series?
Sean Tretta, whose credits include Star Trek: Picard, and Borja Peña Gorostegui serve as executive producers on the new series.
Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee and Gabby Grantham are producing through Point Grey Pictures.
Original Darkwing Duck creator Tad Stones also consulted on the development of the new adventures. Stones said the new creative team has expanded the action and comedy while retaining the “Disney heart” of the original.
The series is produced by Disney Television Animation.
The original Emmy-nominated Darkwing Duck ran for 91 episodes after first launching in 1991. The character later returned as part of Disney’s more recent DuckTales series.

Disney has not yet announced a release date or release window for the new Darkwing Duck series.
