Baz Luhrmann’s William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet is heading back to the big screen for a special 30th anniversary live concert tour, with six UK dates confirmed for October 2027.
William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet Film in Concert will screen Luhrmann’s 1996 film in full while a live ensemble performs its score and soundtrack in sync with the action.
The UK leg will visit Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, York, Birmingham and Manchester, following performances across the wider global tour. Popped recently covered another major film-with-live-orchestra event, with Interstellar Live coming to The O2 in May 2027.
‘Romeo + Juliet’ Returns With Its Soundtrack Performed Live
The concert will retain the film’s original dialogue and action while its music is recreated live by a hybrid ensemble combining rock and orchestral musicians with vocals, electronics and a DJ.
The production has been developed by Communion One and GEA Live in collaboration with Disney Concerts and Baz Luhrmann.
The official concert production features a 12-piece hybrid ensemble, with atmospheric lighting and additional live production designed to transform the screening into a full concert experience. The film itself stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as Romeo and Juliet.
Released in 1996, Luhrmann’s modern adaptation became particularly known for its soundtrack, which includes Des’ree’s Kissing You, The Cardigans’ Lovefool, Radiohead’s Talk Show Host and Garbage’s #1 Crush.
Luhrmann said the film continuing to find new audiences three decades after its release has been one of its greatest surprises, with the concert offering audiences another way to experience its combination of Shakespeare, cinema and music.

- October 18 – Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall
- October 20 – London, Eventim Apollo
- October 21 – York, York Barbican
- October 22 – Birmingham, Symphony Hall
- October 23 – Manchester, O2 Apollo
The UK performances form part of a wider international tour celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary.
The production will make its world premiere at the Sydney Opera House on September 29, 2026, before expanding internationally.

Presale tickets for the UK tour will become available at 10am on September 16, 2026.
General ticket sales will then begin at 10am on September 18, 2026.
