Sky has released the first teaser for Possession, a new five-part limited event series led by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Formerly known as Inheritance, the Sky Original supernatural thriller is set between Bristol and Jamaica, and follows an ambitious young lawyer whose latest case forces her to confront long-buried secrets, identity, inheritance and the lingering impact of the past.
Created and written by Karla Crome and directed by Storm Saulter, the series also stars Jonny Lee Miller, Sheldon Shepherd and Bel Powley.
What Is ‘Possession’ About?
Possession follows Claudia, played by Mbatha-Raw, an ambitious young bi-racial lawyer who travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim made by a local man, Cudjoe East, against wealthy white aristocrat Oliver Connaught.
However, the case takes an unsettling turn when Claudia discovers that the disputed estate is Hope Hill, the Connaught family’s former plantation, and the very place that has haunted her nightmares.
As Claudia and Oliver investigate further, they uncover a disturbing connection between the plantation’s brutal history and the injustices still shaping the present.
The series is described as a gripping supernatural thriller that blends eerie mystery with the vibrant energy of Jamaica, following one woman’s journey into secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Alongside Mbatha-Raw, Miller and Shepherd, the series stars Powley as Charlotte, Nadean Rawlins as Mercy, Sean Gilder as Tom McKenzie, Olunike Adeliyi as Patsy Dawkins, Richard Dillane as Eugene Desfrienes, Diveen Henry as Flora, Jack Bandeira as Kenneth Connaught, Shantol Jackson as Sarah, Jeff Crossley as Angelo and Safina Simpson as Betina.
Who Is Making ‘Possession’?
Possession is produced by Snowed-In in association with Sky Studios.
The series is based on an original story created by Jefferson Bannis, with executive producers including Ruth Kenley-Letts, Jenny van der Lande, Neil Blair, Crome, Saulter, Sam Hoyle, Serena Thompson, Mbatha-Raw and Miller.
The Development Producer is Roxanne Harvey, with Kate Ogborn serving as Series Producer.
NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution is handling international sales for the series.
