Jemma Redgrave is back as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, the head of UNIT, once again stepping into a leading role in Earth’s defence. Ruth Madeley reprises her role as Shirley Anne Bingham, continuing her journey with UNIT after first appearing in the 60th Anniversary special, The Star Beast. Alexander Devrient also reprises his role as Colonel Ibrahim, UNIT’s dependable second-in-command and recent love interest for Kate.

Colin McFarlane returns as General Austin Pierce, a character previously seen in Torchwood: Children of Earth, when Captain Jack (John Barrowman) came up against the terrifying 456. Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw join the Whoniverse in undisclosed roles, both bringing previous Doctor Who experience in entirely new characters for this series.

Adrian Lukis (The Bill), Patrick Baladi (The Office), Vincent Franklin (Cucumber), Francesca Corney (The Buccaneers) and Mei Mac (Call the Midwife) have all been cast in undisclosed roles. Additional guest stars who can be spotted in the trailer are Waleed Hammad, Iestyn Arwel, Hannah Donaldson, Manpreet Bachu, and Ann Akinjirin.

The War Between the Land and the Sea comes from the mind of Russell T Davies, the current Doctor Who showrunner and the architect of its expanded universe. He co-writes the series with Pete McTighe, known for his work on A Discovery of Witches, The Pact, and several Doctor Who episodes, including Lucky Day. Directing all five episodes is Dylan Holmes Williams, who recently helmed the standout episodes 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble in Doctor Who Season 1. The series is produced by Bad Wolf, in partnership with BBC Studios and Disney Branded Television, with executive producers including Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, Jane Tranter, Davies, and McTighe.

Doctor Who Season 2 is now streaming on BBC iPlayer in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Its upcoming sequel, The War Between The Land And The Sea, premieres later this year. Check out the teaser trailer below.
