Disney+ has greenlit Journey, a new original animated fantasy series from Higher Ground.
The music-driven fantasy series, which is currently a working title, is now in production from Disney Kids & Family and Higher Ground, with ICON Creative Studio producing in association with Disney Television Animation.
Disney’s Upcoming Series Follows A Young Heroine Beyond The Walls Of Her City
Journey follows a young heroine whose city is protected by an energy shield. When that shield begins to fail, she answers a mysterious call that leads her beyond the city walls and into forbidden lands.
In this new world, Journey uncovers the truth behind her father’s disappearance and discovers a powerful magic within herself that may hold the key to saving her people.

The series is created by Matt Munn, whose credits include Ice Age: Collision Course and Spies in Disguise. Munn will also serve as executive producer alongside Peabody Award-winning Steve Loter, known for Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Kim Possible. Jessie Dicovitsky is executive producing for Higher Ground.
“An Epic Adventure Anchored by a Remarkable Young Heroine”
“Journey is an epic adventure anchored by a remarkable young heroine whose courage inspires those around her,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “At its core, it’s a story about resilience, self-discovery and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself, the kind of universal themes that have defined Disney stories for generations.”
Dicovitsky added: “Combining adventure, imagination and music, Journey is a true original that takes bold swings. We’re proud to partner with Disney on this fantastical series and to build on Higher Ground’s history of delivering fun and meaningful stories for kids and families.”

Higher Ground, founded by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, has produced projects across film, television, animation, podcasts and digital series. Its family-focused projects include Waffles + Mochi and Ada Twist, Scientist.
Journey joins Disney Kids & Family’s growing Disney+ animation slate, which includes Bluey, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends, Big City Greens and Phineas and Ferb.
Journey releases on Disney+ at a later date.
