For the first time since 2019, Star Wars fans will return to a galaxy far, far away on the big screen. Lucasfilm has revealed the first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the next chapter of Din Djarin and Grogu’s journey, following three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film lands exclusively in theatres on May 22, 2026.

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu (as himself). From toppling Imperial remnant AT-ATs to venturing into a gladiator fight where the creatures from Dejarik have become larger than life, and an impressive Hutt can be glimpsed in silhouette, the Mandalorian and Grogu are on a course for action and adventure. This clan of two is ready for the fight with a brand-new Razor Crest, also landing in the first look at the highly anticipated next chapter in the Mandalorian’s story, alongside glimpses of Din Djarin and Grogu on their next adventure.

The first trailer can be watched here:

The cast is led by Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, alongside Grogu, brought to life through a mix of animatronics, puppetry, and visual effects. Sigourney Weaver joins the franchise as Colonel Ward, a former Rebel pilot now commanding the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers. Jeremy Allen White plays Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba, last seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, while Jonny Coyne reprises his role as a ruthless Imperial warlord. Dave Filoni will also reprise his cameo role as Trapper Wolf, the New Republic X-wing pilot, and Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios makes his feature debut after appearing in The Mandalorian and Star Wars Rebels.

Whilst not actors, the Anzellans will return in the film, alongside the BDX droids from the Disney Parks and Galaxy’s Edge, who will make their on-screen debut in the film.

The film’s music is composed by Ludwig Göransson, returning to score the franchise once more.

First Look Stills Released

Alongside the trailer, Disney and Lucasfilm released a number of official stills from the film:

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026, marking the long-awaited return of Star Wars to the big screen for the first time since 2019. The film is currently confirmed to release in IMAX theaters, too.

Disney has established a fairly consistent window for bringing its theatrical releases to streaming, usually around 70-90 days after their cinema debut. Earlier this year, Snow White hit Disney+ 82 days after release, Thunderbolts* followed after 117 days, and Elio arrived after 89 days. Each landed on a Wednesday, in keeping with the platform’s usual release schedule now, moving away from Fridays for flagship arrivals.

Given the profile of the project as the first Star Wars theatrical release in seven years, it seems likely that Disney will follow the longer gap used for Thunderbolts. That would place its Disney+ premiere closer to mid-September 2026, ensuring the film has maximum time to perform at the box office before boosting Disney’s Autumn streaming slate.

The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters on May 22, 2026. Check out the trailer below:
