HBO Max has officially unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, confirming that the highly anticipated adaptation will debut at Christmas 2026. The eight-episode first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was revealed during the HBO Max UK and Ireland launch event, just ahead of the platform’s rollout.
The series will air on HBO in the United States and stream exclusively on HBO Max in territories where the service is available, including the UK and Ireland, as well as recently launched European markets such as Germany and Italy.
The announcement represents one of the most significant expansions of the Wizarding World since the original film series concluded, signalling a long-term commitment to adapting each of J.K. Rowling’s books for television.
First Look at the Wizarding World
The newly released teaser offers a first glimpse at HBO’s reimagining of J.K. Rowling’s iconic wizarding world, with a fresh cast stepping into some of the most recognisable roles in modern pop culture.
According to the official logline, the series will follow Harry as he discovers a hidden magical world after receiving his Hogwarts letter on his 11th birthday. However, this journey quickly becomes more dangerous, as he is forced to confront a dark enemy tied to his past.
Cast and Characters

Leading the series is Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
The wider cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Other key roles include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, and Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick.
Additional casting features Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley.
Creative Team and Production

The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod set to direct multiple episodes. It is produced for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
Executive producers include J. K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.
Since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 brought the original saga to a close in 2011, Warner Bros. has continued to explore the franchise through a range of spin-offs and extensions across different media. The Fantastic Beasts film series attempted to broaden the mythology with a prequel narrative set decades before Harry’s story, though its long-term future remains uncertain following a mixed critical and commercial response.
The Perfect Time for a ‘Harry Potter’ Teaser
HBO’s decision to unveil the Harry Potter series teaser at its UK and Ireland launch event is far from coincidental. The arrival of HBO Max marks a significant shift in the UK streaming landscape, bringing Warner Bros. Discovery’s premium content offering directly to British audiences for the first time under a unified platform.
For years, HBO content has been distributed in the UK primarily through Sky, with series airing on Sky Atlantic and streaming via NOW. The launch of HBO Max signals a strategic pivot, consolidating Warner Bros. Discovery’s catalogue, including major franchises like Harry Potter, into a single destination. This also positions the upcoming series as a cornerstone title for the platform’s UK rollout. Much like House of the Dragon helped define HBO Max internationally, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is expected to drive subscriptions and engagement.
