The UK’s Eurovision entry for 2025 has been announced, and representing the country will be the female country-pop trio, Remember Monday. The BBC confirmed that the group will be heading to Basel, Switzerland, this May with their song “What The Hell Just Happened?“.

The band confirmed their bid for Eurovision when they appeared as guests on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds. Audiences tuning into The One Show on Friday 7 March from 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer will be treated to the first exclusive TV interview with Remember Monday, and will get a chance to see the official music video for “What The Hell Just Happened?”.

Who are Remember Monday?

Formed in 2013, Remember Monday consists of school friends Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steele. Describing themselves as “pop girlies with a little bit of yeehaw,” the trio has a strong background in both musical theatre and live performance. Remember Monday first gained national recognition when they reached the quarter-finals of The Voice UK in 2019, where they were mentored by Jennifer Hudson. Since then, they have continued to grow their fanbase, performing at festivals, supporting major artists like Billy Joel at BST Hyde Park in 2023, and showcasing their harmonies on platforms like TikTok.

Lauren Byrne has previously appeared in a number of West End productions, appearing in the UK/Ireland tour of Six the Musical in 2019-20 as well as appearing as Miss Honey in the 2022-23 production of Matilda the Musical. Hull’s first appearance in the starlight took place in 2009, when she won a Disney UK competition related to the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock, where she won the chance to record a music video and release her own version of “This Is Me”, one of the songs from the film. Charlotte Steele is no stranger to performing either, having made her West End debut at the age of 10 in Mary Poppins.

“What The Hell Just Happened?” is a departure from the UK’s previous electro-pop entries, offering an energetic and theatrical mix of country, pop, and rock influences. Co-written by Remember Monday alongside Brit Award nominees Billen Ted, Danish Eurovision-winning songwriter Thomas Stengaard, and pop artist Julie “Kill J” Aagaard, the song tells a humorous and chaotic tale of a wild night out. With dynamic key changes, tempo shifts, and powerful harmonies, the song has drawn comparisons to a mash-up of ABBA, Sam Ryder, and the cast of Six: The Musical. The track opens with a mandolin-driven intro before exploding into a fast-paced anthem filled with punchy hooks and a singalong chorus. Its bold and unpredictable structure makes it one of the UK’s most adventurous Eurovision entries in years.

Remember Monday will also be the first girl group to represent the UK at Eurovision since 1999, when Precious performed “Say It Again“. The band has expressed excitement about the challenge, stating, “We’re going to bring loads of fun, energy, and hopefully do something that you won’t have seen before on the Eurovision stage.”

When is Eurovision taking place?

The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel, Switzerland, after Swiss singer Nemo won the 2024 competition. The contest will be held between May 13 and 17 at the St Jakobshalle arena. With tensions high after last year’s political controversies, the event will introduce new well-being measures for contestants, including backstage no-filming zones and a code of conduct.

With their unique sound, undeniable stage presence, and an ambitious song, Remember Monday will be looking to make a lasting impression on the Eurovision stage. Whether they can bring the UK back to Eurovision glory remains to be seen, but their entry is certainly one of the boldest in recent memory.

The semi-finals will air on BBC Two, while the grand final on 17 May will be shown on BBC One with commentary from Graham Norton, Mel Giedroyc, and Rylan. Radio coverage will also be available on BBC Radio 2, ensuring fans can tune in from anywhere.
