The 20th Century Studios survival thriller Whalefall arrives exclusively in cinemas on October 16, 2026. Starring Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin, the film follows a diver trapped inside a sperm whale with only an hour of oxygen remaining. So when could audiences watch it at home?
Disney has confirmed that the film is heading to cinemas first and has not announced a streaming release date. Its distribution through 20th Century Studios, however, makes Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the US the eventual homes.
When Will ‘Whalefall’ Stream On Disney+ In The UK?
Popped currently predicts a UK Disney+ release in January 2027, although the timing remains speculative. A theatrical-to-streaming period of roughly 75 to 105 days would put its potential arrival between late December 2026 and late January 2027.
As a specific working prediction, Wednesday, January 20, 2027 is plausible, just over three months after the cinema debut. That is not an announcement from Disney, and the date may change.
When Will ‘Whalefall’ Stream On Hulu In The US?
In the United States, Hulu is a likely subscription-streaming destination for a 20th Century Studios release. Similar to the Disney+ prediction, our provisional US prediction is day-and-date, with January 20 as the current estimated date. Disney has not confirmed the platform timing or an exact day.
When Could ‘Whalefall’ Be Released Digitally?
Before a subscription premiere, Whalefall may become available to rent or buy through digital storefronts. A possible digital window is late November to December 2026, depending on box-office performance and the length of its cinema exclusivity. No digital date has yet been given.
What Is ‘Whalefall’ About?
Written and directed by Brian Duffield with co-writer Daniel Kraus, and based on Kraus’ novel, the film follows Jay Gardiner, who searches for the remains of his late father off California’s coast before being swallowed by an enormous sperm whale. The cast also includes Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd. Disney+’s official guide confirms the cinema date and notes that streaming details have yet to be announced.
