HBO is bringing back Girls for a five-episode limited revival, reuniting creator and star Lena Dunham with the comedy’s original leading cast. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, a decade after the sixth-season finale.
The announcement confirms the return of Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells, while original executive producer Judd Apatow is also returning.
Which ‘Girls’ Cast Members Are Returning?

Dunham will reprise her role as Hannah, with Williams returning as Marnie, Kirke as Jessa, Mamet as Shoshanna and Rannells as Elijah. The five-episode run will revisit the characters years after the original series followed their friendships and relationships in New York.
Dunham, who created, wrote, directed and starred in the original show, explained that the reunion came together only once she found a story worth telling. HBO has not yet revealed specific plot details for the new episodes.
When Will The ‘Girls’ Revival Be Released?

Production is expected to begin in 2027, but HBO has not announced a premiere date. It has also not confirmed whether the revival will air in 2027 or later.
The original Girls ran for six seasons and concluded in 2017. HBO says the comedy received 19 Emmy nominations and won twice during its original run.
Lena Dunham And Judd Apatow Reunite At HBO
Dunham will create, write and direct the new episodes, as well as executive produce alongside Apatow. Ilene S. Landress and Michael P. Cohen are also executive producers, with Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Rannells serving as co-executive producers.
HBO’s comedy programming chief Amy Gravitt said the new instalment will shift its focus from the turbulence of the characters’ twenties to the milestone of turning 40, giving the revival a different perspective from the original series.
