Sky has released the trailer for The Wargame, a four-part constructed documentary series that places senior politicians, military leaders and intelligence figures inside a simulated national crisis.
The series launches on September 21, 2026 on Sky and NOW, with episodes airing across four consecutive nights before a live special follows the finale on September 24.
What Is ‘The Wargame’ About?
Produced by The Garden, part of ITV Studios, the series puts its participants inside a sealed COBR-style crisis room as they respond to a fictional Russian attack on UK soil.
The scenario unfolds through rolling news bulletins, intelligence reports, social media footage and unexpected interventions, forcing the group to make decisions under the kind of pressure faced by those at the highest levels of government.
Who Is In ‘The Wargame’?
Michael Gove takes the role of Prime Minister in the simulation, with Nicola Sturgeon serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Penny Mordaunt as Defence Secretary.
The fictional Cabinet also includes Harriet Harman as Home Secretary, Jim Murphy as Foreign Secretary, Sayeeda Warsi as Attorney General and Ayesha Hazarika as Director of Communications.
Military and intelligence roles are filled by General Sir Richard Barrons, Kim Darroch and Christopher Steele, while George Robertson appears as NATO Secretary General and Anthony Scaramucci takes the role of US Secretary of State.
When Does ‘The Wargame’ Start On Sky?
The Wargame begins on Monday, September 21, with the four episodes airing nightly through Thursday, September 24.
The final episode will be followed by The Wargame: Live (working title), a studio programme hosted by Cathy Newman. Members of the cast will return to discuss the decisions made during the simulation and the wider questions raised by the series.
