With Masters of the Universe now arriving in cinemas, many fans are already wondering when the long-awaited live-action adaptation will eventually make its way to streaming.
Starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, the new fantasy blockbuster is receiving an exclusive theatrical release first. However, based on Amazon MGM’s recent streaming strategy, there is already a strong indication of where the film could eventually land in both the US and UK.
What is ‘Masters of the Universe’ about?
Based on the iconic Mattel franchise, Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam as he returns to Eternia after years away and embraces his destiny as He-Man in order to battle the evil forces of Skeletor.
Directed by Travis Knight, the film stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man alongside Camila Mendes, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin and Idris Elba.
The film marks the first live-action Masters of the Universe movie since the 1987 cult classic starring Dolph Lundgren.
Where will ‘Masters of the Universe’ stream in the US?
As an Amazon MGM Studios release, Masters of the Universe will most likely stream on Prime Video in the United States following its theatrical run.
Amazon MGM has consistently moved many of its theatrical releases to Prime Video relatively quickly. Mercy, starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, premiered on Prime Video on March 22, while Crime 101 arrived on the platform on April 1.
If the film follows a similar release pattern, it could potentially begin streaming between August and October 2026.
Where will ‘Masters of the Universe’ stream in the UK?
While Masters of the Universe is being distributed theatrically overseas by Sony Pictures Releasing, the film could still ultimately stream on Prime Video in the UK due to Amazon MGM’s recent global streaming strategy.
Recent Amazon MGM releases, including Mercy, Crime 101 and After the Hunt, all premiered simultaneously on Prime Video in both the US and UK.
Because of this, there is now a strong possibility that Masters of the Universe could follow the same pattern despite Sony handling the film’s international theatrical distribution.
At the moment, no official UK streaming platform has been confirmed. However, Prime Video currently appears to be the most likely destination in the UK following the film’s theatrical run.
Will ‘Masters of the Universe’ be available to rent or buy digitally first?
Before arriving on streaming services, Masters of the Universe will likely become available to rent or purchase digitally through platforms such as Apple TV, Prime Video and Google Play.
Most major blockbuster releases receive a Premium Video On Demand window several weeks after their theatrical debut, allowing viewers to watch the film at home before it reaches subscription streaming services.
