With The Mandalorian and Grogu now arriving in cinemas, many viewers are already wondering when the next chapter in the story of Din Djarin and Grogu will eventually make its way to streaming.
While the film is receiving an exclusive theatrical run first, here’s what we know so far about its likely streaming future on Disney+, including estimated release windows for both US and UK audiences.
What is ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ about?

Set following the events of The Mandalorian Disney+ series, the film follows bounty hunter Din Djarin and Grogu as they become caught up in a dangerous mission involving the New Republic, the Hutt crime syndicates, and a mysterious Imperial warlord.
Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written alongside Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, the film stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, with Jeremy Allen White voicing Rotta the Hutt and Sigourney Weaver appearing as New Republic leader Ward. The film’s supporting cast comprises of Jonny Coyne, Steve Blum, Martin Scorsese and Matthew Willig.
The film acts as a continuation of the Disney+ series while also serving as the first theatrical Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.
When will ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ release on Disney+?

As a Lucasfilm production distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu will eventually stream exclusively on Disney+.
Disney has not officially confirmed a streaming release date yet. However, recent Disney theatrical releases have generally arrived on Disney+ between 80 and 100 days after their cinema debut.
If Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu follows a similar release strategy, the film could begin streaming sometime between August and September 2026. Because Disney controls global distribution for the film, it is also extremely likely that the US and UK streaming release dates will land simultaneously.
Do you need to watch ‘The Mandalorian’ before seeing ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’?

While the film continues the story from the Disney+ series, director Jon Favreau has suggested the movie was designed to work for audiences who may not have watched every season of The Mandalorian.
However, viewers familiar with the Disney+ series will likely have a stronger understanding of Din Djarin, Grogu and the wider relationships within the film.
At minimum, watching Seasons 1–3 of The Mandalorian beforehand would provide the most context.
Will ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ be available to rent or buy digitally first?

Before arriving on Disney+, the film will likely become available to rent or purchase digitally through platforms such as Apple TV, Prime Video and Google Play.
Disney typically releases its major theatrical films digitally several weeks before they begin streaming on Disney+, so viewers may be able to watch the film at home earlier through Premium Video On Demand services.
