Disney+ has unveiled the official trailer for Season 5 of FX’s Emmy Award-winning docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, with the new season set to premiere on May 15 exclusively on Disney+ in the UK.
The fifth season will launch with its first two episodes on Friday, May 15, with one new episode of the eight-episode season arriving weekly afterwards. All previous seasons are currently available to stream on Disney+.
What Happens In ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ Season 5?
Launching later this spring, Season 5 chronicles Wrexham AFC’s quest for promotion to the Premier League following three consecutive promotions, a feat that has never been achieved in English Football League history.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds continue navigating the challenges of running the third-oldest professional football club in the world, while the cameras follow the dreams and worries of Wrexham, a working-class city in North Wales, as two Hollywood stars help shape the future of its historic club.
Having risen so quickly through the football pyramid, with global attention now fixed on the town, fans and critics alike are watching to see whether the Wrexham experiment can go all the way to the Premier League, or if the pressure will prove too much. Summer signings bring an almost entirely new roster and a new level of intensity, while rising costs, fierce competition, and limited ticket availability due to the construction of the new Kop stand create fresh challenges for the club.
With a new coach and a permanent home, Wrexham AFC Women continue to compete among the top teams in the Welsh Adran Premier League. The team is looking to stand out in a highly competitive field of talented women footballers, with new players, continued support from the club and fans, and the opportunity to build on the foundations laid over previous seasons.
Behind The Series
Welcome to Wrexham first began following the club in 2020 when Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds purchased the then fifth-tier Red Dragons in hopes of building one of football’s great underdog stories. Since then, the club has achieved back-to-back-to-back promotions, reaching the Championship for the first time in more than 40 years and transforming Wrexham into one of football’s biggest global stories.
