Can you believe that we are already over halfway through Creature Commandos?! Yes! Episode 4 of Creature Commandos is here and is certainly the most shocking episode of the series yet.

Hopefully the first of many different crazy moments in James Gunn’s DCU is Circe’s vision of the future, the one she claims to be trying to prevent that involves the end of the world, Princess Ilana Rostovic, and her special furry friend.

THE VISION

After being apprehended by Task Force M and brought back to Belle Reve, Circe’s hands are bound and she is brought into an interrogation room where she begins to tell Amanda Waller, Rick Flag Sr, and John Economos that she was trying to stop the end of the world, claiming that it is brought upon by Princess Ilana Rostovic of Pokolistan. Waller questions these claims but Economos and Amazon historian Isla Macpherson do confirm that Circe has the ability of clairvoyance.

Waller takes that bet and steps into the interrogation room with Circe who to be able to show her exactly what she saw. Before Waller can even think, Circe projects the vision into her mind and shows her a future in which Ilana Rostovic and the kingdom of Pokolistan have allied themselves with none other than Gorilla Grodd, a notorious enemy of the Flash and constant attempted conqueror of Earth.

In this vision we see the earth laid to waste, its biggest cities such as Metropolis and Gotham under siege and worst of all its finest heroes dead. Some of the heroes are easy to point out, however some are not, so who are the victims of Ilana and Grodds conquest of Earth?

GORILLA GRODD

image 72 | Popped

Appearing early within Circe’s vision. The gruesome Gorilla Grodd is revealed to be Princess Ilana Rostovics co-conspirator in this plot of world domination. We do not get context as to why he is helping her just him at her side and seemingly commanding Pokolistan troops to fire on civilians. It’s not impossible that Grodd is masterminding this whole thing, as mind control is an ability he possesses.

SUPERMAN

image 68 | Popped

Front and center among the chaos is our brand new Man of Steel, making his first canonical appearance in the DCU dead and crucified. This surely ruffles some feathers, feeling oddly reminiscent of Snyder’s plans for his DC Universe but we yet to know the full context behind this scene. It is nice to see synergy already flowing through the projects in the DCU.

BATMAN

image 73 | Popped

Right next to the last son of krypton is the dark knight himself, Batman! another character making their first canonical appearance in the DCU in this episode. Unlike Superman, this is the first even inkling of the Bat in this universe, with Superman we’d already technically seen him in set photos and teases dropped by Gunn himself. This Bat looks to be sporting a black and grey suit, long ears and a flowing black cape.

WONDER WOMAN

image 67 | Popped

If you cannot tell already, there is going t be quite a few first appearances for many big characters in this episode, so of course Wonder Woman had to be there. The only downside is that yes, shes dead! Right through the chest wth a big wooden spear. This Wonder Woman is sporting a very classic and simple look with the bodysuit look and the tiara. Hopefully this will lead to a bit more info on the characters future within the DCU sooner rather than later.

BOOSTER GOLD

image 66 | Popped

Another first appearance here, impaled behind Wonder Woman, Booster Gold meets a grim fate in the future he’d hoped would make him a legend. He is one of the harder figures to make out but you can tell it is Gold by his blonde hair, as well as his blue and gold suit that should be recognizable.

PEACEMAKER

image 65 | Popped

One of the easiest to point out as he’s on his own is Peacemaker. Can’t help but feel Gunn wanted him singled out just to mess with his friend but spared him from the same fate many shrimp face. This Peacemaker is on his back, dead of course, with a leg torn off. Oh well…

VIGILANTE

image 79 | Popped

Who missed Vigilante! everyone did lets not kid ourselves. Adrian Chase makes his grand return and stuns as an impaled corps alongside Metamorpho and Judomaster. Im sure if he could say anything, he would mostly just express how disappointed he was that he didn’t die next to his bestie, Peacemaker.

STARFIRE

image 64 | Popped

Alongside Superman looks to be the one and only Starfire, a member of the Teen Titans and warrior princess of Tamaran. The character has yet to have any official confirmation in the DCU besides reports of a Teen Titans film in the works with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow scribe Ana Nogueira. Starfire seems to be sporting a look similar to her Rebirth costume and of course her very long hair.

ROBIN (DAMIAN WAYNE)

image 69 | Popped

Our second titan and yes another first appearance. No one is exempt for Ilana and Grodd’s wrath! A Robin that is highly likely to be Damian Wayne is amongst the casualties. Spotted next to Wonder Woman and slouched over seems to be the silhouette of on Batman’s most recent boy wonder. The character is set to appear in Brave and The Bold, the DCU’s planned Batman film.

GUY GARDNER

image 76 | Popped

Another character from Superman can be seen as one of the fallen as someone has finally figured out how to shut him up. Yes, James Gunn impaled Nathan Fillion himself, I’m sure Batman or one of the other Lanterns wished they’d have been able to do it themselves but Grodd beat them to the punch.

SUPERGIRL

image 70 | Popped

Yes, you guessed it, another first appearance from an upcoming character in the DCU, Millie Alcock’s Supergirl is here! although she isn’t up to talk very much right now. Supergirl can be seen behind Hawkgirl, wearing a look similar to that in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic This does pose a very interesting

HAWKGIRL

image 77 | Popped

To the left of Wonder Woman? Hawkgirl!

While technically a first canonical appearance of the character in the DCU, this is not the first time we’ve seen Isabela Merced’s Kendra Saunders. We got out first look at her over during the Summer from set photos but of course without the wings.

This Hawkgirl has her wings! Unfortunatelty, they aren’t much use to her anymore. Kendra is suited up what we can still only presume to be her Lord Tech suit.

MR. TERRIFIC

image 78 | Popped

To the right of Superman is the one and only Mr.Terrific, yes, dead. It’s easy to tell its Terrific due to his jacket and pants. The white parts of his clothing are easily identifiable and it just makes sense for him to be there due to his importance in the DCU.

The character will play an important role in Superman and will likely be a big character going forward just based on how Gunn has spoken about him.

JUDOMASTER

image 80 | Popped

Remember him? kinda? well he’s dead now! just kidding but in Circe’s vision, even a butterfly sympathizer isn’t spared. Right next to Batman (what a gig!) Judomaster is shishka-bobbed and dead as hell right next to Vigilante. The process behind selection who would be here must have been an interesting one, I don’t know if anyone

METAMORPHO

image 83 | Popped

Following his brief appearance in the recent trailer for Superman, Metamorpho makes a tough to spot appearance in Creature Commandos. if you look you can briefly make out his orange side and what appears to be his black underwear and silver belt.

GOTHAM CITY

image 81 | Popped

During Ilana and Grodd’s conquest of Earth we flash between a couple of cities. One in particular seems to be the home of the caped crusader, Gotham City. The bridges that connect the separated islands in the city make this being Gotham City the most sense, especially when the other is the home of big blue.

METROPOLIS

image 82 | Popped

The other city we see laid to siege is Metropolis, with the Daily Planet globe crashed right into the city as civilians flee around it.

Unlike Gotham we actually see the result of the conquest as Amethyst Knights blast innocents running from the chaos.

WHEN DOES CIRCE’S VISION TAKE PLACE IN CREATURE COMMANDOS?

What do we know about the timing of this. Creature Commandos takes place before Superman.

This could of course be due to only concept art being available at the time but we can see Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner wearing their Lord Tech suits from Superman.

Again that could just be what was available at the time to go off of, but many speculate that these characters will get new looks at the end or after Superman.

We should also point out that Supergirl is present here, we don’t know exactly when her movie takes place just yet but we have to presume it is before or during the scene.

Of course this vision is simply just a hypothetical future right now, its not set in stone just yet but I would argue that this would take place before Superman. Placing all of these characters hear now just complicates it and all of these reasoning is purely speculative.

The first four episodes of James Gunn’s Creature Commandos are streaming now on Max, with new episodes releasing weekly on Thursdays.
