An official synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder has been released, and it could be hinting at a possible Venom connection…
‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Synopsis Teases Venom
A new trailer and poster are now available for Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, offering long-awaited clues to what’s in store for the God of Thunder. The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who, to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
While Marvel is known to change the history and backstories of their characters, an important part of Gorr the God Butcher’s backstory is All-Black the Necrosword. All-Black is said to have been the first symbiote in existence. In the comics, this sword was first created and wielded by God of the Symbiotes, Knull, until he was incapacitated in battle. Upon approaching Knull in his incapacitated state, All-Black bonded itself to Gorr, giving him powers, including increased strength and regeneration which he then used to slay the gods.

Is Venom Coming to the MCU?
We know that Gorr will wield the sword in Thor: Love and Thunder thanks to the release of his Funko Pop where we see not only the sword, but a mysterious black goo substance beneath him. Could this black goo actually be a symbiote outside of a Venom film? Is it possible that All-Black was made possible in this universe thanks to a small piece of Venom being left behind in the mid-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home? As said before, Marvel is known to change the history and backstories of characters, but in the comics, Gorr spends thousands of years butchering gods before he ever interacts with Thor so it seems unlikely that this will be the case but not impossible.
Considering that Sony owns the rights to all symbiote-related material, Marvel may have changed the Necrosword’s history and possibly erased Knull’s involvement altogether. However, this may also be the first of many symbiotes we see in the main MCU.
Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in cinemas exclusively, with a release on Disney+ expected later this Summer.
